Children’s Ministry

From the time your child is born through their pre-teen years (and beyond), your child is an important part of our church family. We are committed to being a faith community that surrounds you and your child with love and care. We pray that you will find many opportunities for your child to grow in their spiritual journey here.

Wednesday Nights

Wednesday nights at First United Methodist Church are electric!

Tiny Tunes (3 & 4 year olds) meet from 6-7 p.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall on the first floor. They play, sing, enjoy a Bible story, complete a craft that helps illustrate their Bible story and often have snacks. Two or three times per year, the Tiny Tunes kids sing or ring bells during worship.

Kids for Christ (Kindergarten-6th Grade) meet from 6-7 p.m. in the church’s elementary wing on the second floor. They split into three groups: Kindergarten-1st Grade in the first group, 2nd-4th Grade in the second group and 5th-6th Grade in the third group. The three groups rotate through music, Bible study and recreation.

Every element of our preschool and kindergarten curriculum centers on giving children a first impression of their loving heavenly Father. Everything we teach our preschoolers is with the goal that by the time they hit kindergarten, they will know three basic truths:

  1. God made me.
  2. God loves me.
  3. Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Our preschoolers spend some time each week in a time of worship and fellowship together in the chapel.

Elementary (K – 5th Grade)

9:45 A.M. (Drop off in Chapel/Pick up in classroom)

  • Kindergarten | Room 122
  • 1st Grade | Room 213
  • 2nd Grade | Room 215
  • 3rd Grade | Room 216
  • 4th Grade | Room 214
  • 5th Grade | Room 212

Our elementary curriculum is based on the truths modeled by Jesus in Luke 2:52 (“Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and all the people.” | New Living Translation). Our goal is to provoke discovery and invite kids into a new understanding of how to grow in relationship with Jesus. By the time they hit 6th grade, they will understand:

  1. I need to make the wise choice.
  2. I can trust God no matter what.
  3. I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

In addition to those three truths, they will focus on 150 key Bible stories. We are dedicated to helping our children grow in wisdom, faith and friendship.

Our elementary children begin each week’s activities in the chapel with a time of worship and fellowship.

6th Grade

9:45 A.M.

  • 6th Grade | Room 209

Our 6th graders use the Biblical foundation from their time in our elementary program as a springboard for in-depth discussions based on a variety of short-term studies. Each year the class is polled to determine what topics the pre-teens most want to discuss, but each lesson is prepared in a way to help them better develop their relationship with Jesus. By the time they hit 7th grade, they will know what it means to put Jesus first — and they will know how to live out the commands of Micah 6:8:

  1. I will do what is right, seeking justice always.
  2. I will love mercy, kindness and faithfulness — and I will show mercy, kindness and faithfulness to others.
  3. I will walk humbly with God, obeying his commands and treasuring his gracious love for me.

On the first Sunday of each month, our 6th graders worship together in the 9:45 a.m. worship service in Wesley Hall.
