On May 4, our Governor issued guidelines for in person worship for churches. In person worship can resume this Sunday, May 10. Our United Methodist leadership in Arkansas has asked United Methodist Churches to not meet until after May 17. We will be following that recommendation. We have tentatively set Sunday, May 24 as our day to resume in person worship. That means we will continue our three drive in services for the next two weeks. We will also continue our online 11 o’clock traditional service. Once we do return to in person worship we will not be returning to our usual routine for many months to come. Here are some of the guidelines we will be following closely.
We will place signs at all of our entrances that no one should enter who has recently or currently had a fever, symptoms, or contact with a positive patient.
6-foot physical distancing except for family groups. That will mean limited seating especially for our 9:45 service. I urge you to consider attending one of our other services, especially the 8:30 contemporary service in Wesley Hall. Please know we will be seating you from front to back and exiting from back to front at all our services.
We will require face coverings be worn at all times for everyone over 10 years old. Our singers and speakers will remove their mask to preach or speak.
We will have hand sanitizing stations at every entrance. We are also attempting to get special UV lighting that kills airborne virus.
There will be no children’s classes nor will we have childcare available for the first few weeks at least.
Touching is strictly prohibited as is shared drinks and food. I know this is hard for us to imagine but, no coffee service will be provided for the next few months.
We will do away with attendance registers, bulletins, collection plates and anything else where we might transmit the virus by touching. Doors will be propped open or we will have ushers opening the doors of our church.
As you can see, this is pretty restrictive. I also want to urge our older members and our members with underlying conditions to consider continuing to worship on line.
Even with all these restrictions, I am very eager to resume our regular services here at First Church. See you at drive in this Sunday and see you in person May 24!
Yours in Christ,
